Senior Data Scientist, Election and Editorial Products AtThomson Reuters, our mission is to deliver trusted news and insights at global scale. Data and AI are increasingly central to how we support journalists, editors, and product teams in making faster, betterinformed editorial decisions. We are seeking aSenior Data Scientistwith a strong blend of technicalexpertise, editorial curiosity, and product mindset to work onReuters'U.S. Electionsproduct.Heading into the 2026 midterms, you willfocus onbuildingReuters' expected vote modelandon the quality control of election results data flowing in from across the United States. Looking aheadtothe 2028 presidential cycle, you will help us build out a broader suite of electionsdata products thatpower newsroom decisionsand inform our readers.In this role,you willpartnerclosely with theDirector of U.S. Elections,the newsroom, andengineeringon work that is high-visibility and deadline-driven. About the Role As a Senior Data Scientist,U.S. Elections,you will: • Partner witheditorial leaders, newsroom stakeholders, and product managersto translate editorial goals into data science problems and measurable outcomes. • Developand refine Reuters' expected vote model, anddesign the data quality controls that catch anomalies in incoming results from counties and states across the U.S. • Help shape the roadmap for Reuters' elections data products heading into the 2028 presidential cycle, partnering with editorial, engineering, and product to expandour offerings. • Design, build, and deploymachine learning and statistical modelsthat support editorial news products. • Design andmaintaindata pipelines and feature stores in collaboration with engineering teams. • Clearly communicate insights,trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and nontechnical audiences, including newsroom stakeholders. • Mentor and coach junior data scientists and analysts, setting best practices for analytical rigor and responsible AI. • Stay current with advances inAI for media and newsproducts,andhelp drive their responsible adoption across the organization. About You You are a strong candidate for this role if you have: • 6-10 years of experiencein data science, machine learning, or applied AI, with a strongtrack recordof production delivery. • Prior experience working with U.S. elections data - ideally on a previous election cycle - and a working familiarity with concepts such as expected vote, swing states, opinion polling, voting patterns, and vote types (absentee, early, mail-in) at the county and state level. • A degree in a quantitative field such asComputer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or Engineering(or equivalent experience). • StrongproficiencyinPython, SQL, and modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake). • Hands-on experience buildinggenerative AI solutionsusing large language models (e.g.,GPTstyleor opensource models), including prompt engineering, RAG, andagent-basedapproaches. • Familiarity withAWS-based ML tooling(e.g., SageMaker) and scalable model deployment patterns. • Experience building or collaborating ondata pipelinesusing tools such as AWS Glue or similar orchestrationframeworks. • A product-oriented mindset, with the ability to balance editorial quality, user value, and technical feasibility. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with journalists, editors, product managers, and engineers. • A genuine interest injournalism, news products, and the responsible use of AI in editorial contexts. Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $158,000 USD - $293,000 USD. For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $137,100 USD - $254,700 USD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. About Us
