VICE PRESIDENT OF CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS We are a large design/build construction firm specializing in landscape construction and maintenance services. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on executive leader to oversee and drive the continued growth, performance, and operational excellence of our landscape construction division. POSITION SUMMARY: This executive leadership position is responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational performance, profitability, and growth of the company’s landscape construction division. The Vice President of Construction Operations provides leadership and oversight for all construction operations, including project execution, manpower planning, scheduling, equipment utilization, subcontractor management, purchasing, safety, quality control, and operational efficiency. The Vice President works collaboratively with executive leadership, sales, estimating, accounting, project management, and field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with company standards and client expectations. This position plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement, operational scalability, leadership development, and long-term organizational success. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Leadership & Operational Management: · Follow and enforce company policies, procedures, and operational standards. · Provide executive leadership and oversight for all landscape construction operations. · Direct and support project managers, superintendents, field supervisors, and field leadership teams. · Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing operational and field teams. · Establish clear organizational structure, performance expectations, KPIs, and accountability standards. · Foster collaboration between sales, estimating, design, project management, purchasing, and field operations teams. · Promote a culture centered on safety, professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. · Lead leadership development and succession planning initiatives within the construction division. Construction Operations: · Oversee all construction operations from project award through final completion. · Lead the coordination of manpower, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project resources across the construction department. · Review and manage daily and weekly construction schedules to ensure operational efficiency and project execution. · Coordinate construction staffing and crew allocation in alignment with project schedules and deadlines. · Analyze upcoming jobs, plans, sketches, specifications, and contracts with the Sales and Estimating Teams. · Ensure projects consistently meet schedule, budget, safety, quality, and client satisfaction objectives. · Conduct site inspections and project reviews with project management teams. · Establish operational standards, production goals, workflows, and accountability measures throughout the department. · Proactively identify and resolve major project risks, operational challenges, delays, and client concerns. · Monitor progress, productivity, and performance across all active construction projects. · Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company quality standards, specifications, and safety requirements. Financial & Strategic Oversight: · Maintain accountability for divisional profitability, gross margins, revenue performance, and overall financial success. · Monitor backlog, workload forecasting, manpower planning, and resource allocation to support operational efficiency and sustainable growth. · Review financial reports, job costing, labor productivity, and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improvement. · Develop and implement operational strategies that improve efficiency, profitability, scalability, and overall company performance. · Participate in executive-level strategic planning, business development initiatives, and long-term company growth planning. · Collaborate with executive leadership on organizational planning, staffing strategies, capital expenditures, and operational investments. · Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all areas of construction operations. · Develop the construction department to operate at maximum efficiency, profitability, and operational excellence. Safety & Compliance: · Promote and enforce company safety policies and OSHA compliance throughout all operations. · Ensure all construction operations comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. · Partner with safety leadership to minimize operational risk and maintain a safe working environment. Client & Industry Relations: · Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and industry partners. · Participate in client meetings, project reviews, and high-level problem resolution. · Support business development efforts by assisting with operational planning and project strategy. · Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with clients, vendors, and associates. Additional Responsibilities: · Participate in and contribute to company initiatives and operational improvements. · Develop new ideas, systems, and processes that improve company efficiency and effectiveness. · Perform additional duties as assigned. · This position will require working Saturdays during peak season. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position is responsible for assigning, reviewing, directing, and evaluating the work of operational and field leadership personnel. Positions Reporting to this Role: · Director of Construction Operations · Senior Project Managers · Project Managers · Field Supervisors · Foremen – Construction · Purchasing Manager · Yard Manager EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: · Bachelor’s Degree preferred · B.A./B.S. in Construction Management, Business Management, Landscape Management, or related field preferred · Equivalent industry experience will be considered KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND REQUIREMENTS: · Minimum 15 years of experience in landscape, commercial, and residential construction operations. · Minimum 10 years of executive or senior leadership experience within the landscape or construction industry. · Proven experience leading large operational teams in a fast-paced construction environment. · Strong understanding of construction operations, scheduling, manpower planning, and project execution. · Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and contracts. · Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and profitability analysis. · Proven ability to analyze operational and financial data to drive strategic decision-making. · Experience developing operational systems, workflows, and process improvements. · Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills. · Demonstrated ability to effectively present information to executive leadership, clients, associates, and public groups. · Demonstrated accountability for work being performed and completed on schedule. · Ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines and changing priorities. · Strong attention to detail and organizational management skills. · Basic understanding of construction machinery and equipment utilized within the landscape industry. · Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction management software platforms. · OSHA certifications are a plus.
