About The Role The Lead Software Engineer, Back End at Capital One is a strategic technical leadership position responsible for guiding the development of robust, scalable, and secure backend systems. This role involves leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects, working closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and other engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will oversee the design, development, and deployment of microservices and full-stack solutions that support regulatory compliance, data integration, and innovative financial products. Qualifications Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of four years of professional software engineering experience is required, with at least one year of experience in cloud computing environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree and over seven years of experience in programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js. Additional desirable skills include two or more years of experience with cloud services, open-source frameworks, and experience managing teams. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and a proven track record of delivering complex projects are highly valued. The candidate must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, leadership capabilities, and a passion for staying current with emerging technologies. Responsibilities Lead a diverse portfolio of backend development projects, ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure microservices aligned with business and regulatory requirements. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering culture. Design and implement cloud-native solutions utilizing programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL, Node.js, Go, and Scala, leveraging AWS tools and services. Collaborate with product managers, data teams, and other stakeholders to develop robust, customer-centric digital solutions that enhance financial empowerment for millions of users. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, experimenting and integrating new solutions to improve system performance and security. Participate in code reviews, evaluate technical solutions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of development practices and standards.
