Senior Software Engineer (Backend) Location: New York - Union Square, hybrid Package: $185k - $250k typical base range + meaningful seed equity Visa Sponsorship: H1B - transfer of existing only We’re excited to partner with an early-stage healthcare AI company building clinically grounded technology for behavioral health providers. The company’s mission is to improve mental healthcare outcomes by creating safe, clinician-supervised AI infrastructure that supports patients between appointments - not generic consumer chatbots. Their platform is designed to integrate directly into clinical workflows, helping providers deliver continuous support, improve outcomes, and better manage high-risk patient populations. They are tackling a technically demanding challenge at the intersection of healthcare infrastructure, AI safety, compliance, and real-time patient engagement. Key growth stats: The business already has significant enterprise traction: They’ve secured partnerships with major behavioral health organizations, serving provider networks ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of clinicians, and are actively scaling following strong customer demand. The company is led by repeat founders and experienced operators with a strong execution track record; they’ve previously built, scaled, and exited successful companies, with substantial fundraising experience ($500m, combined) and deep operational expertise. The Role: As an early engineering hire in a 15-person company, you’ll own backend architecture end-to-end. This includes: Designing distributed backend systems Building APIs and infrastructure from scratch Architecting data pipelines and AI integrations Defining reliability, security, and observability standards Making foundational technical decisions that shape the product for years This is a high-autonomy environment with minimal bureaucracy. This is not another productivity SaaS platform. The systems you build will directly support people facing addiction, mental health crises, and other behavioral health challenges. Your engineering work will contribute to technology designed to improve patient wellbeing and, in some cases, save lives. About You: You may be a strong fit if you have: 10+ years product engineering experience building scalable distributed systems and honing strong systems design and architecture fundamentals. Experience within both startups and scaled big tech (e.g. FAANG) Production experience with modern backend stacks (e.g. Go, node.js, Typescript, or similar) and GCP stack (Cloud Run, Firestore, Pulumi) Familiarity with AI/LLM infrastructure, orchestration, or inference systems Strong product ownership mindset Comfort operating in fast-moving startup environments Advantageous experience includes: HealthTech / digital health / HIPAA-regulated environments AI safety or high-trust production systems This opportunity is ideal for someone who wants deep technical ownership, meaningful mission alignment, and the chance to build foundational infrastructure in one of the most challenging applied AI domains.
